Skylights are often left as is without any kind of window covering, window treatment options were simply limited. This has all changed now because skylight blinds are a great way to control sunlight with a press of a button. These would be your automatic or motorized blinds that are controlled by remote control. A cheaper alternative are blinds for skylights that are operated with an extension pole. This pole is usually sold separately but it’s valuable when you need to open or close blinds that are out of reach.
Manual or automatic should be decided not just by your budget. If you think you find it physically challenging to lift and turn the extension pole then spend a little more and buy automatic blinds. Also think about how often you will be opening and closing them. I’ve had bare skylights for many years before I installed skylight window blinds and my point here is that you don’t need to open and close them so often. This is a matter of preference and if you have strong sunlight coming in to your home then you probably will operate them daily. Installation can be a little tricky because of where they are located. You will need a very tall ladder and probably a helping hand.
Colors like most blinds are many and magnificent. Take your pick, do you want cotton white, lilac, praline, cherry or some other exotic fabric color. Also where would you like them mounted on the inside or the outside. Whatever you decide just make sure they are securely mounted. The last thing you would want is for them to fall and causing damage. If you listen to experts who know all about blinds then mounting them from the inside is the general preference. It will be easier and your skylights will look much better.
A skylight blind is more than just for improving the appearance of the interior of the home. They can shield you from harmful UV rays that penetrate the skylight window as well as give you added insulation and privacy. The benefits are obvious and for about fifty dollars more you can probably get automatic remote controlled skylight blinds. This is something you should think carefully over and whether you pick automatic or one with a pole extension they are sure will equally look very lovely in your home.
