bamboo vertical blinds

Blinds are either horizontal or vertical and we’ll devote this article to vertical blinds. There are reasons why people get one or the other. It could be a matter of preference or maybe one might appear more fashionable, then there’s the convenience of which way you prefer the louvers to open. There’s also the practical aspect of it, one style might simply be more appropriate for certain windows. Sliding doors for example could only be outfitted with vertical blinds. Windows that are especially large especially length wise are also better window dressed with vertical louvers. These are obvious points but what about regular sized windows in the family room, dining room or even study. What kind of blinds would look best in those rooms. Also which of the two styles cost more? These are two simple questions that people always ask when they inquire about window dressing their windows.

Vertical blinds open from left to right or vice versa. They do not open and close in an up and down motion unlike horizontal blinds. This is the biggest difference between these two designs. Vertical blind louvers are also 1 to 2 inches wider than horizontal ones, standard size is 3.5 inches. These are the obvious differences in appearance but what’s inside the head rail also differs. The motion of the gears is a little bit more complicated than mechanisms that support horizontal blinds. The only concern you would have here is the cost. They simple cost more because they require more gears to move the louvers not only in a left to right motion but also in rotating motion.

If you are decorating your house they can make it look instantly fashionable even if it’s completely empty. The sight of hardwood floors with black vertical blinds on the windows or sliding doors would be simply inspiring. Black is just one out of hundreds of colors that are available. White flooring with red blinds would look just as pleasing. It is really quite difficult to pick a wrong color because blinds look great in just about any color. Your only concern is to make sure that the fabric of the louver is continuously available. You might need a replacement louvers at one point or another. So it is safe to buy what is generally available. Vinyl louvers in certain colors are almost always available in more than one brand. If you were to need a replacement you would have no problem finding one that matches the louvers on your window.

The is also true for wood vertical blinds, buying something that is custom is great but there are risks. Sometimes they stop making the same pattern that you have. Replacement is emphasized more with this style because the metal weights and string at the bottom sometimes become tangled, break and rip the louver from the panel. If you have pets, especially dogs this is certainly a possibility. It’s happened to me on a couple of occasions. This happens more often on vertical window blinds that are installed on sliding doors. The risk of damage to the one that are installed on windows is minimal.

When searching for the right brand, color and size you will be very tempted to buy cheap vertical blinds. You will see all these great deals that offer seemingly beautiful looking blinds for half price. The deal might very well be worth it, but we are not talking about any kind of window treatment here. You have to also think about the mechanics and the quality of the cord, wand and everything else inside the head rail. If you want reassurance then consider brands that offer a good warranty. The fact is they will break and you can avoid the stress and frustration by getting something that is made out of good materials.
